Business Issue
A global professional services firm with unique requirements wanted to automate their annual performance management process. The firm had complex pre-existing forms and reports that incorporated custom questions based on business, function, managerial status, tenure, and whether he/she participated in the firm’s 360-degree feedback program. In addition, the appraisal process had to be different for each of three major categories of employees, and the selection of reviewers and feedback providers was done in different ways for each employee category. Available off-the-shelf solutions were not able to handle these particular requirements without significant customization, which would likely cause problems during future upgrades.
Solution
Cambria delivered a solution on its TalentApp™ platform that allowed the firm to meet all of these requirements. Our custom talent portal supporting these requirements included the following capabilities:
- Data flow-through from the participant to their manager’s assessment (with either data read-only or the ability of a manager to override responses);
- Ability of the manager to request additional feedback from the participant’s clients, view the responses and assimilate them into their assessment;
- Ability to download a partially completed assessment in Adobe Acrobat format for offline review for uploading later;
- Hierarchical managerial access to assessments and reports, and designation of other individuals with access based on business, function and industry sector.
Results
In addition to carrying out all of the needed functionality and performance management processes required by our client, the talent portal provided a single location where performance management data could be readily consolidated and status tracked, significantly reducing the manual collation, tracking and consolidation process for HR staff. Employees also have the ability to track unresolved performance management activities that, along with system reminders, help them provide timely feedback to those being appraised.
The portal was subsequently expanded to include an online My Documents folder with performance management reviews, 360 reports, and personal goals information so employees and their managers can easily access essential information for the most effective performance discussions.
