BOSTON, Mass. (September 16, 2004) – Cambria Consulting, Inc., a leader in human resources management consulting, has been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to provide business-focused executive coaching services to senior executives, managers and supervisors at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC and at other agency centers across the country. Cambria will tap its network of more than 100 professional executive coaches to provide executive coaching matched to NASA’s organizational requirements and agency executives’ individual needs and preferences.

“Many [NASA managers and executives] have reported significant benefits from the opportunity to work one-on-one with a uniquely qualified individual,” said Victoria Thorne, Director of NASA’s Career Management Office. “They also have reported that Coaching has helped them to identify their leadership strengths, challenges and preferences so that they can more effectively accomplish the organization’s mission.”

NASA recognized the innovative approach Cambria has taken in its executive coaching services. “For several years, our Strategic Executive Coaching programs have helped organizations realize the full potential of the coaches that are working in their systems,” said Ellen Kumata, Cambria Partner and founder of the firm’s executive coaching practice.

Already acknowledged as an innovator in designing and implementing strategic leadership development programs, Cambria developed its Strategic Executive Coaching approach as a way to help companies coordinate and get the most benefit from executive coaching activities. Cambria has worked with Wachovia Corporation, Credit Suisse First Boston, Belo, and National Semiconductor, among others, to get the best return on executive coaching. “It’s a way for companies to more effectively align, oversee, and leverage the coaches that are already in their systems,” noted Kumata.

Part of that alignment involves connecting the individualized work of coaches to the agency’s broader objectives of leadership development and change. “While already heavily invested in technical training, NASA has become increasingly aware of the need to balance technical skills with the soft sciences or human resources skills that enable employees to contribute their best,” explained Thorne. “NASA has partnered with Cambria Consulting to provide an integrated, systematic approach [to coaching]…aimed at improving mission performance.”
