Cambria joins with people everywhere who are responding with outrage to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis – and the deaths of many other Black men and women that have fueled the Black Lives Matter movement. We share the shock and anger that has driven thousands of people to the streets in racial justice protests worldwide.
To our Black family and friends, we recognize sincerely that it’s not enough to say that we stand with victims of racism, social injustice, and brutality. Cambria’s leaders have begun a process of individual and collective action to help contribute to real change –
Financial Support: Cambria Partners and others across our firm are donating to several groups advocating for racial justice – here are three that we are supporting specifically:
Unconscious Bias Awareness: We believe that sustainable change regarding racial injustice will accelerate if everyone has the courage to examine their own social stereotypes and patterns of unconscious beliefs that impact their behaviors. Cambria is exploring options for doing this as a firm, to give every employee the opportunity to examine how unconscious, implicit bias functions in all of us – and how to address it.
Learn more about hidden bias – including using a tool to assess yourself – from Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
And more: This is a compelling moment in time, in terms of meeting the huge challenges around racial justice. Cambria’s actions will continue to evolve. Look for us to update you with more about what we’re doing and what we’re learning, as we look to share in the global mission of matching words with actions.
Also, we would love to hear from you. What ideas do you have? What options are you pursuing? What lessons can you share? Please reach out to us soon!
Michelle Obama said it best about racism:
“It’s up to all of us – Black, White, everyone – no matter how well-meaning we think we might be, to do the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out.”
